The overcoat detail is strange. Why is she wearing it sitting at a desk. How do they notice its length if she is sitting and there is the desk between her and the bystanders.

The coat's meant to be *absurdly* long, less 'wearing a slightly oversized coat' and more like it's pooled across the floor around and behind the desk like a cape. The idea was to both give her a distinct silhouette and something that was subtly strange, even a bit outlandish.

Also, that specific desk model sits on four thin legs with no paneling of any kind, so the lower half is completely exposed. That being said, this is a genuinely obscure and ultra-niche historical detail, and most readers won't know it, which is completely fair. It's there more to hold up the internal logic of the scene than anything else.
